Manchester City’s pre-season tour took an unfortunate turn as they were edged out by Barcelona in a penalty shootout, despite a tҺrilling 2-2 draw in front of a packed Orlando crowd.
The match was a feаst of attacking football, with both sides creating numerous chances. Barcelona struck first through Pau Victor, but City responded quickly with Nico O’Reilly’s equalizer. Just before the break, Pablo Torre restored Barcelona’s lead, leaving City with work to do in the second half.
Pep Guardiola’s side came out determined and were rewarded when Jack Grealish found the top corner with a brilliant finish, setting up a grandstand finale. City pressed for a winner but had to settle for a share of the spoils, with the match ultimately decided by a cruel penalty shootout. Kalvin Phillips and Jacob Wright saw their efforts saved, as Barcelona emerged victorious.
While the result is disappointing, the performance offered plenty of positives for City fans, with the team showing attacking intent and creativity. As the pre-season continues, Guardiola will be looking to fine-tune his squad ahead of the new campaign.
