Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz took fans on a personal tour of their nearly 11,000 square-foot cliffside mansion, which they acquired for over $20 million in 2019 after manifesting the purchase for eight years.
Located in La Jolla, California, the property, famously known as the Razor House, was conceptualized by architectural designer Wallace E. Cunningham and is believed to have served as the inspiration for Tony Stark’s futuristic residence in Marvel’s Iron Man.
Renamed “Dreamland” by Alicia and Swizz, the couple collaborated with interior designer Kelly Behun to create a warm atmosphere suitable for raising their family.
Alicia shared with Architectural Digest that the mansion’s distinctive exterior has drawn attention from Iron Man fans of all ages, with Swizz acknowledging the nod to the franchise’s desire to “save the world.”
Beginning their home tour in the living area, the couple showcased the circular space offering breathtaking ocean views.
They aimed for a warm ambiance blending modern furnishings with cultural influences from their global travels, with Swizz emphasizing his preference for clean lines and reaching out to Behun for her soulful design approach.
A highlight of the mansion is the open layout downstairs, connecting the kitchen, dining area, and living room, where the family enjoys board games and casual meals.
Alicia and Swizz particularly cherish the functional dining table, which accommodates gatherings with friends and family, emphasizing its importance in their family-centric home.
For more intimate gatherings, the mansion features a formal dining room and a cozy family room, seamlessly blending art and life experiences.
Alicia proudly shared their extensive collection of Gordon Parks’ photography, highlighting civil rights and African-American lives, while glass walls offer stunning views of the resort-like backyard and infinity pool overlooking the ocean.
Ascending the glass staircase, the couple showcased their favorite art pieces and “the library,” also known as “the piano room,” where Egypt practices piano on Alicia’s first-ever piano.
Swizz emphasized the sentimental value of the instrument and the importance of maintaining warmth throughout the mansion’s interior, despite its industrial design.
Their home tour offers a glimpse into their family’s dynamic and art-filled lifestyle, where warmth and functionality harmonize with architectural grandeur and breathtaking views.
