Arne Slot’s side have made a £41m bid for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni after their draw with Manchester United

According to Fichajes, coach Arne Slot’s team has submitted a £41 million offer to Real Madrid to recruit French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni.

Joining Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 for €80 million from Monaco, Tchouameni was expected to be a key factor in the midfield. However, the 24-year-old has not been able to confirm a solid position at the Santiago Bernabéu.

In the 2024/25 season, he played 21 times in all competitions but mostly not in his natural position as a defensive midfielder. Coach Carlo Ancelotti often used him as a makeshift centre-back, which made Tchouameni unhappy and considered looking for a new destination.

Liverpool had pursued Tchouameni before he chose Real Madrid. Currently, the port city team is in dire need of a quality defensive midfielder to strengthen the squad in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool’s asking price of £41 million is significantly lower than Tchouameni’s transfer value of €80 million according to Transfermarkt. This may be difficult for Real Madrid to accept, especially when they have no intention of selling a player who still has a lot of potential to develop.

However, if Tchouameni is determined to leave to play regularly in his preferred position, Liverpool could be the ideal destination. The Reds could provide him with a more stable playing environment, where he can be used in his true defensive midfield role.

In addition to Liverpool, many big clubs such as Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are also said to be interested in Tchouameni. This could make the race for his signature more difficult and push up the transfer price even higher.

With the winter transfer deadline approaching, this deal will be a notable story in the coming time.
