Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has only a short break before he leads the Netherlands at Euro 2024 next month. However, during his brief summer holiday, he made the most of it by attending the most glamorous event on the Formula 1 calendar in Monaco.
Van Dijk was given a tour of Monte Carlo by fellow Dutchman Max Verstappen, the reigning Red Bull Racing champion. He may have also crossed paths with his Liverpool teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was also in Monaco for the weekend.
While Alexander-Arnold was present as one of the celebrity part-owners of the struggling Alpine Racing team, Van Dijk spent much of his time alongside Red Bull. However, qualifying was disappointing for Verstappen, who could only secure sixth place on the grid—an unfortunate position on a circuit known for its difficulty in overtaking.
Alpine fared slightly better, securing 10th and 11th place in qualifying, and Alexander-Arnold will be hoping for a strong race performance from his team.
During his time in Monaco, Van Dijk was spotted enjoying various activities. He and Verstappen were seen using binoculars from a terrace, with the Liverpool star humorously flipping the camera on a photographer capturing the moment.
He also watched the qualifying session from the Red Bull garage, observing Verstappen’s efforts firsthand. Before the final practice, the pair made a stylish entrance into the paddock by boat. Later, they were seen unwinding with a drink, with Van Dijk sporting a casual socks-and-sliders look.
